Handling Notice
All reconstitution solution products are stored at Controlled Room Temperature (CRT) before leaving our facility. Once a package is in transit, we are unable to control temperature conditions during delivery.
While freezing and prolonged heat exposure are not recommended, brief contact with ambient temperature extremes during shipping is unlikely to affect product integrity given its stable composition. That said, we encourage customers to retrieve packages promptly and avoid situations where shipments may sit in mailboxes, delivery trucks, or on porches for extended periods in extreme weather.
What Is Bacteriostatic Water?
Bacteriostatic water is sterile water that contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic preservative. The benzyl alcohol inhibits the growth of bacteria, which is what allows the vial's stopper to be punctured and the contents drawn from more than once.
Because of that preservative, a single vial is a multiple-dose container — it can be accessed repeatedly across its in-use window, unlike preservative-free sterile water, which is intended for a single use.
Once the stopper is first punctured, a multiple-dose vial is typically used within a 28-day window and then discarded, in line with the manufacturer's labeling and standard storage guidance.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between bacteriostatic and sterile water?
Sterile water contains no preservative and is intended for a single use. Bacteriostatic water contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol, which inhibits bacterial growth and lets a multiple-dose vial be accessed repeatedly over a defined in-use window.
How long does it last?
Unopened vials are stable until the printed expiration date. Once the stopper is first punctured, a multiple-dose vial is generally used within 28 days and then discarded, per the manufacturer's labeling.
How should I store it?
Store at controlled room temperature, away from direct light and freezing. Keep the vial sealed until use and always follow the storage instructions printed on the manufacturer's label.
What size vials are available?
We stock 30mL Hospira multiple-dose vials. You can order a single vial, a 3-pack, or a 25-vial case directly from the product section on this page.
